Colombia 2009

Velasco Family Trip To Colombia.

April 1, 2009

This year we decided to go visit my parents in Bogota Colombia. The trip would be from April 1 to April 13 2009. I was really happy to go see my parents and especially my father. It has been 9 years since I have seen my dad. I was also happy because this would be the first time my father would meet my family. I am really excited for this trip so the journey beginnings.

The fight was at 5PM on Wednesday April 1. We are taking advantage of 1 week off for Spring Break. So the plans were simple get out of work early and then pick up all the kids from school. Then we went straight to the airport.

In the airport all went well with our bags and checking in. Then we just waited around for a while for the fight. While I sit at the airport I realize that I am so lucky. I am so grateful to GOD for everything he has given me and everything I have.

The fight to colombia was great because we were on an airbus airplane. It was a first for us… This plane had a TV for each passenger and it had built in movies or games. It was awesome because my kids watch cartoons and tried to play some games.

Once at the airport in Bogota Colombia we didn’t have too much trouble getting our bags and going through immigration. I was just excited to see my dad. All I could thing about was that I didn’t want to cry once I saw my dad. I cried…. It was just great to see my mom and dad. It was just awesome to hug them and hold them. I told them I really missed them and I that I LOVE THEM so much. I know the kids were also excited to be able to meet there grandparents.

It is Thursday morning and we are at my father’s house. The kids were so happy to met my dad and to be in Colombia. We had a funny moment when my kids asked how can ‘DADDY’ have a daddy. We took a walk around the neighborhood and to a near by shopping mall.

Today is Friday and my father wanted to take the kids to a park in the morning so they can run around. One of our issues in Colombia was transportation. We had to walk a lot from place to place. Many taxi cars were very small so couldn’t fit a family of 6 plus my parents. Watching my dad play with my kids was a special moment to me .

Leonard Vera and Family

We also went to my cousins house Leonardo Vera. He has a beautiful family with 3 beautiful girls. He also is doing great and I am so proud of him. I only wish him the best and remind him that GOD loves. I was also very happy to find out he is part owner of a GYM in Bogota Colombia. I was also HAPPY to find out he is a HAIR STYLIST. It is a prefect job for him!!!

April 4, 2009

Today we started the day by going to a local resturant for lunch. After lunch we went to visit the city of Bogota and then we are going to see some other cousins. We also stopped at a mini playground for the kids to play. Elizabeth is so so adorable!!! I am so lucky to have Lily in my life…

On our way to the Molina Family which is from my father’s side. The kids will meet there cousins and have some play time.

Today is Sunday and we are going to visit my Grandmother at my aunts Lupe’s house.

MY EMMA VERA

Another reason for coming to Colombia was to see my grandmother. She is such a wonderful person and so special. Once you meet her one time you will love her. She is funny, sweet, nice and so adorable. I love her with all my heart and I get sad just thinking of her. I am so glad I will be able to spend time with her again and especially that she will meet my kids.

Thank You Grandma for always being there for me. I Love You So Much. May GOD Bless You Always..

Zipaquira

Today we went to visit “The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá (Spanish: Catedral de Sal de Zipaquirá)”. Which is an underground church built in a tunnel of salt mines about 200 meters inside a salt mountain near the town of Zipaquirá, in Cundinamarca, Colombia.

One of the thing about going to The Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá is that it is at the top of a big mountain. It feels like you have to climb about over 1,000 steps to the top.

After a long day we had a visit from my cousin Sandy Molina and Family. We had the pleasure to visit her house and then they drove us home. The kids didn’t stay up late as you can see by the photos.

Monserrate

Today we went to visit the most famous peak – Montserrate is a mountain that dominates the city centre of Bogotá, the capital city of Colombia. It is at 3152 meters about (10,341 ft) above the sea level, it is a favorite with Bogoteños and tourists who go there for the spectacular views. The top is accessible by climbing hundreds of stairs or by the cable car (which I decided to take instead!). I remember coming here when I was about 7 years old with all my cousins.

Check Out Photos Below Of Us Going Up The Mountain and Photos Of Us At The Top.

Climbing up the Mountain brought back lots of memories. It reminded me all the sacrifices my parents made to leave their country to give us a better life. Thank You DAD for everything you have given me and for taking care of me. You are the best and I hope to be the father you were to me. I miss you and I love you with all my heart. My God bless you forever…

After a long day out walking on top of the Mountains we started to head home. While waiting in line to get a cable. My daughter Elizabeth (Lilly) bumped her head on a railing while playing with her brother Zachary. We all freaked out a bit she had this big bump on her forehead and as you can imagine she was crying a lot. After getting some ice we headed home to rest and enjoy the rest of the day.

Never A Dull Day but Great Memories…

Today my dad was taking us to a pool but the water from this pool comes from the Mountains. The water is nice and hot.

April 9, 2009

Today we are going to visit my aunt Mimi. She is my Grandmothers Sister. She is very special. I love to go visit her when I go to Colombia. She is very proud of her children and her children also her children love her very much.  The kids played in the playground at my aunt Memi building.

My cousin Ivan has a skateboard with a motor on it that was pretty cool.

April 10, 2009

Today we went to a National Park and walked around. Then we went driving around the different cities in Bogota. Later in the day we went driving with my aunt Pia through some roads up a mountain. We also stop to eat in a restaurant on the mountain. We saw lots of run down houses in the mountains while driving.
